Understanding and Addressing Histamine Intolerance & Mast-Cell Activation Syndrome

Thursday March 27, 2025. 6 - 7:30 pm ET online through the Vermont Center for Integrative Herbalism. Recording is available for purchase here. You can also see a transcript of this class on my blog here.
Itchy skin and hives, digestive upset, heart palpitations, insomnia, heartburn, urinary irritation … non-allergic histamine disorders can cause a wide variety of very uncomfortable and seemingly unrelated symptoms. If you’ve been hearing a lot about histamine intolerance and wondered if that might be what’s going for you (or your clients!) — here’s a chance to learn about what’s going on with all the histamine hype on social media, whether it might be a concern for you, and what to do about it.
We’ll explore exactly what histamine intolerance is and what it has to do with mast cell activation syndrome, including the connections with immune dysregulation and the gut’s crucial role in mediating histamine reactions. And, of course, we’ll look at how to support both conditions with dietary changes, medicinal herbs, and supplements.
This class will include practical guidance on implementing a low-histamine diet and how to find information sources that you can trust. In addition, I’ll share several of my go-to low-histamine recipes and food substitutes, food prep protocols, as well as specific foods and herbs that help metabolize histamines and reduce uncomfortable reactions. Recording is available for purchase here.

What can I even eat?! Differentiating & Navigating Multiple Dietary Restrictions

Thursday March 20, 2025. 6 - 7:30 pm ET online through the Vermont Center for Integrative Herbalism. Recording is available, purchase here.
For those of us with multiple digestive sensitivities, food allergies, autoimmunity, and/or structural gut deficiencies, it can be difficult to figure out what is safe to eat. If you’re already working with multiple dietary restrictions, or if you’ve been overwhelmed by even starting with dietary elimination, you know just how it feels!
Part of the challenge is deciphering what our digestive symptoms are trying to tell us, and how to tease out which foods are causing those symptoms. And because gut health influences the function of every other system in the body, we may have to navigate symptom signals that don’t seem to have anything to do with digestion.
In this class we'll review and differentiate common diet-related symptoms and the food sensitivities or health concerns they may be related to. We’ll consider helpful tools and techniques for organizing dietary information, conducting research, and regulating daily food choices. We’ll also cover some medicinal herbs and supplements that can help calm symptoms, improve digestive health, and heal gut tissue.
This class is designed to be useful for those of us navigating our own food sensitivities — you don’t need to have any experience with herbs to get a lot out of this class! We’ll also share lots of tools that will be useful for practitioners who support clients with digestive disorders and food sensitivities. Recording is available, purchase here.
